Safety

Safety, built in

Bithoo is used by children, so every part of it starts from one question: what is the least a stranger could ever learn or do? The answer is: nothing.

A closed school community

Every student belongs to exactly one school and only ever sees listings from that school. Nobody outside it can browse, search or contact anyone.

Approved by the school

Students join with the school's invite code and admission number. The coordinator checks them against the roster or their ID card photo first.

Almost nothing to share

Other students see a first name and class, nothing else. No surname, profile photo, email, phone number or address.

Contact details are blocked

Listings that contain a phone number, email address, link or social handle are refused automatically.

Hand-overs at school

Books change hands at the school's own hand-over point, in school hours. No home addresses, and no money moves through the app.

Reports reach a grown-up

Anyone can report a listing or a user. Reports go to the coordinator, who can remove listings and pause accounts.

Your data

What we keep, and for how long

The full details are in our privacy policy.

  • Sign-in email: stored only as a one-way scrambled code. We cannot read it back.
  • Admission number, school email, ID card: seen only by your coordinator. The ID card photo is deleted once they decide, or after 30 days.
  • Book photos: shrunk and stripped of location on the phone, shown only through links that expire within minutes.
  • No ads, analytics or trackers of any kind. We never sell or share data for marketing.
  • Delete any time: in the app, for students and parents.

Report a problem

Something wrong? Tell a grown-up.

In the app, open the listing and choose Report. It goes straight to your school's coordinator. If something is urgent or about Bithoo itself, email hello@bithoo.in. We act on safety reports within 24 hours.
