Terms of use

The short version: be honest, be kind, list only study material, hand books over at school, and never share contact details.

These terms are an agreement between you and Bithoo about using the Bithoo app and website. By creating an account or using Bithoo you agree to them. If you are under 18, please read them with a parent; your parent or guardian agrees to them for you.

1. Who can use Bithoo

  • Students in classes 6–12 at a school that uses Bithoo, once the school has approved them.
  • Parents and guardians of those students.
  • School coordinators appointed by their school, using the web dashboard.

Use your real first name and class, your own email address and your own school's invite code. One account per person.

2. What Bithoo does, and does not do

Bithoo lets students of the same school list used textbooks and notes, find them, and arrange to hand them over at school. Bithoo is not a party to any deal between students: we do not own, inspect or guarantee the books, we do not handle payments, and we are not responsible for the condition of a book or for a hand-over that does not happen. Any payment happens in person, at school.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abuse

Bithoo has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You must not post, send or do anything that is:

  • bullying, harassing, threatening, hateful, sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate for children;
  • an attempt to share or collect phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles, home addresses or other contact details, or to arrange meetings outside school;
  • a listing for anything other than textbooks, notes, guides and similar study material, or for anything illegal, unsafe, counterfeit or pirated (including photocopied or scanned copies of copyrighted books);
  • misleading, such as a fake listing, a false report or pretending to be someone else;
  • an attempt to break, overload, scrape or get around the app's safety measures.

Contact details in listings are refused automatically. Anyone can report a listing or a user in the app. Reports go to the school's coordinator; we review reports sent to us within 24 hours. Content that breaks these rules is removed, and users who post it can have their accounts paused or removed.

4. Your listings

You are responsible for what you list. Describe the book honestly, use your own photos, and keep the listing up to date (mark it reserved, or delete it when it is gone). You keep ownership of your content, and give Bithoo permission to store it and show it to students and the coordinator of your school for as long as it is listed.

5. Hand-overs

Meet only at your school's hand-over point, during school hours. Never go somewhere else, never share your contact details, and tell a teacher or your coordinator if anything feels wrong.

6. Your school's role

Your school decides who can join and appoints coordinators who approve students, review reports, remove listings and pause accounts. Schools may also require a parent's consent.

7. Ending your account

You can delete your account in the app at any time. We, or your school, can pause or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk, and we may close Bithoo for a school that stops using it.

8. Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what data we use and why.

9. The service

We work hard to keep Bithoo safe and available, but we provide it "as is" and cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, Bithoo is not liable for losses arising from deals between users or from using the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Indian consumer law.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We will show the date of the latest version on this page and tell users in the app about important changes. If you keep using Bithoo after a change, the new terms apply.

11. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Questions or complaints: hello@bithoo.in.
